Pelicans figure amongst the biggest aquatic birds and are recognisable by their large beak with a voluminous, extendable pouch. It’s a veritable fillet of fish! As well as serving to capture its prey, the pouch allows the pelican to cool down during periods of extreme heat. Pelicans frequent bodies of water around the world and are found near rivers, lakes and oceans where they live in colonies. For their babies, they organise a nursery system.
